Proper planning will take an overwhelming task of decorating a very tall Christmas tree and make it manageable.

Before you purchase a very tall Christmas tree, make sure that you have a place to store it (if it is an artificial Christmas tree) or dispose of it (if it is a living Christmas tree) after the Christmas season is over.

Make sure you have a way to get the Christmas tree into the room.   Are the doorways wide enough?  How many people are needed to carry the weight and raise it to be standing?

Make sure you have all of the equipment that is needed before you begin.

Gather many helpers for this job, since it is nearly impossible to complete with one person.

Try to gather all supplies and have them on site before the Christmas tree is put into place and all of the workers arrive.

Safety First
When decorating a very tall Christmas tree, you must consider safety first.

Consider the safety of the people decorating the Christmas tree as well as the safety of those who will be viewing the Christmas tree.

Ensure that you have more than enough people needed to safely erect the Christmas tree.

The Christmas tree must also be secured safely.

You may want to consider bracing it not only at the bottom but also from the ceiling (the White House removes chandeliers from the room and secures their Christmas trees from the ceiling).

Also consider surrounding the very tall Christmas tree with a barricade so people don't touch it.

Access
In order to access all levels of your very tall Christmas tree, you need to either have a ladder that does not lean against the tree, scaffolding, or some sort of mechanical lift.

You may want to get several options for accessing your tall Christmas tree so several people can work at different levels at the same time.

Lights
Christmas lights always seem to cause the most frustration when decorating a Christmas tree, but they are even more frustrating when decorating a very tall Christmas tree.

Make sure to not plug in too many lights into one electrical outlet.

Follow the Christmas light manufacturer's safety guidelines.

Also make sure any extension cords do not create a trip hazard.

Decorate
Decorate your very tall Christmas tree as usual, however your Christmas ornaments size is dependent on the size of your tree - the larger the tree, the larger the ornaments should be.

Larger ornaments not only look better, but one larger ornament takes less time to attach to a Christmas tree than 5 smaller ornaments.

Tree Topper
Decide if you want a special tree topper on your very tall Christmas tree.

Just like the ornaments, the larger the tree the larger the Christmas tree topper should be.

Below the Christmas Tree
A Christmas tree skirt is traditionally found under a tree.

You may choose to decorate underneath your very tall Christmas tree with poinsettias also in order to hide the bare spot under the Christmas tree.
