Adding evergreens to your ceiling is a good way to add life to your home at Christmas.

You can attach your evergreens to a light fixture and/or use them in a garland to hang across the ceiling from end to end.

Ornaments
Christmas ornaments of all shapes and sizes can be hung from the ceiling.

Consider using plastic or paper ornaments since they do not weigh much so they are easier to hang.

These lighter weight Christmas ornaments will also be safer than glass in case one accidentally falls on the floor.

Hanging just a few Christmas ornaments from the ceiling is nice, however Christmas is a time of oppulence and going a bit overboard, which will give you a much more dramatic and memorable Christmas ceiling display.

Snowflakes
Since Christmas is in the winter, an obvious choice for decorating the ceiling is to hang snowflakes.

Snowflakes have a magical quality to them that is calming.

You can decorate your ceiling with snowflake ornaments or create paper snowflakes that are all different to hang.  Consider getting your kids involved in the snowflake-making process.

Crystals
Similar to the snowflake idea, hanging crystals from your ceiling will not only create a winter wonderland, but will add rainbows around your room as the light hits them.

You can purchase new crystals #ad or find some vintage crystals from an old crystal chandelier.  You might choose to use crystals that are all the same or ones that are all different.

Wreaths
You can hang one or more Christmas wreaths from your ceiling, either hung flat against the ceiling or suspended from the ceiling.

If you suspend the wreath(s) from your ceiling, ensure that they are decorated on all sides.

Consider using decorative ribbon to hang your wreaths for added flair.

Christmas lights help bring light to the darkness of winter, so adding lights to your ceiling is a wonderful idea for decorating your ceiling for Christmas.

You can use traditional string Christmas lights or hang lights in the shape of spheres or stars.

Whether you prefer colorful lights or plain white lights, the lights themselves can be your Christmas decorations.

You can use plug-on lights, however battery powered Christmas lights with a remote control #ad will probably be easier.

Christmas Tree
Have you considered hanging your Christmas tree upside down from your ceiling?

An upside down Christmas tree takes up much less floor space than a Christmas tree on the floor and also can be safer to keep out of reach of toddlers and pets.

Locations
You can decorate most any part of your ceiling, however some people prefer to just decorate the perimeter of the room's ceiling, hang items from a chandelier,  or decorate the ceiling around an existing light fixture.

By sticking with these specific locations, you can emphasize your existing home's architecture.

Avoid cheap decor items when decorating your ceiling for Christmas.

Don't use crepe paper or other disposable type Christmas decorations.

Your items don't have to be the absolute highest quality since they are not seen close up, but they should not look like they came from the dollar store.

When decorating anything in your home, quality is more important than quantity.

Attachment Options
When attaching Christmas decorations to your ceiling, your most important strategy should be to make sure the items do not fall.

Do not use push pins or everyday tape since those items generally don't hold well.

Attach Christmas decorations to your ceiling using strong hooks instead, but make sure that the specific hooks that you are using are rated for the weight that you are adding.

You can hang items using fishing line (since it is nearly invisible) or use decorative items such as pretty Christmas bows.
