Many people don't think of the beach when they think of Christmas, however Christmas is celebrated in all parts of the world.
Whether your family's Christmas tradition is celebrating at a beach house or you enjoy a beach house style, here are a few ways to decorate a beach house for Christmas.
Color Scheme
Christmas decorations are not required to be red and green, especially at the beach.
Consider using the beachy colors around you to set your Christmas color scheme.
You can use dark blue like the water, light blue and white like the sky, tan and gold like the sand, soft pink or orange like the sunsets, and/or light green like sea glass and plants.
Another option is to use the colors already in each room as a Christmas decorating color palette.
You may also choose to do all white Christmas beach decorations.
Christmas Tree
You can decorate your home using a traditional green Christmas tree, either live or artificial, or use a white Christmas tree for a lighter look.
Unless you are in a cold weather location, a flocked tree should be avoided since it would look out of place.
If you are in a warm weather location, consider putting an additional Christmas tree outside on your patio or deck where you will be spending much of your time.
Ornaments
You can decorate your Christmas tree with traditional ornaments or you can select nature made ornaments from the beach, such as sea shells, starfish, a clear glass ornaments filled with sea glass, sea urchins, sand dollars, and driftwood.
You can even make your garland out of small sea shells, a natural rope, or oyster shells.
Consider using sand as glitter and apply sand from your beach to embellish plain ornaments.
Don't go overboard by including cheap mass produced ornaments of boats, lighthouses, fish, mermaids, and oars, else your Christmas tree might look like it belongs in a tacky gift shop.
Top and Bottom
Don't forget about the top and bottom of your Christmas tree.
Consider using a large starfish for your Christmas tree topper.
For a Christmas tree skirt, use something simple like burlap or a solid colored skirt without embellishment. Simplicity is key.
To continue the color scheme and add some designer flair, wrap your Christmas presents in color coordinating gift wrap.
Avoid cartoon characters on the gift wrap, else your Christmas tree might look juvenile.

You can make a wreath out of star fish or another item found at the beach. Another wreath ideas is to use a traditional evergreen wreath decorated with coastal colors and seashells.
If you are crafty, you can make a small table top Christmas tree out of oyster shells.
If you are handy, you can make a full size Christmas tree out of driftwood.
Consider changing out your everyday throw pillows and throw blankets with ones that have a Christmas theme or are in your Christmas color scheme.
Simplicity
Being at the beach is about being serene, calm, and appreciating your surroundings.
Don't go overboard on the Christmas decorations if you have limited time to remove them once Christmas is over. Your time at the beach should be focused on spending time with the people who are with you.
Simplicity is all that is needed, but feel free to go overboard if that brings you joy.
