Electrical and cable cords are unsightly and should be hidden if at all possible.
Here are some interior designer tips & tricks to hide electrical or data cords and cables from your TV, phone, computer, and other sources.
Tall Accessory
If your cord or cable runs behind a table that is up against a wall, consider putting a tall accessory under that table (such as a stack of books or a large vase) to hide the cord.
Cord Cover
To reduce the visibility of a cable or cord along a wall, consider using a cord cover that attaches to your wall.
These hard plastic raceways found at most home improvement stores will hide the cord and can be painted to match your wall.
Hire an Electrician
For a more expensive option, consider having the electrical or cable outlet moved so the cord does not have to stretch so far and it will be hidden from view.
Channel Inside Your Wall
You can create a channel inside your wall to run cords from one spot to another.
This is a good option for running cords from a wall mounted TV to a receiver.
Make sure to check with your local building codes and construct the channel so it does not make a fire hazard.
Behind the Baseboards
There are new hollow baseboards on the market today that allow your cables to run behind the baseboards hidden out of sight.
Paint
Consider painting the cord itself the color of the wall or floor in order to make it less visible.
Fabric
You can cover a cord in a silk sleeve so the cord is not seen, but the sleeve will be very visible.
Behind Furniture
Consider running cables on the back side of furniture that is up against the wall in order to hide the cables.
Avoid furniture with an open back or tall legs that are not good at hiding cords and cables.
Use cable clips #ad to keep the cables hidden behind your furniture.
You can also use an under desk cable management tray #ad.
Get Rid of the Cord
If all else fails, consider replacing your corded item with a battery powered or cordless one so there will not be a cord or cable to hide.
