How to Decorate a 12 Days of Christmas Christmas Tree

Almost everyone knows the words to the Twelve Days of Christmas song, however very few people decorate their Christmas tree with this theme.

Imagine standing in front of the tree happily seeking the next ornament while singing the song in your head.

If you would like a unique and fun Christmas tree theme this year, why not do the 12 days of Christmas?

Set up your Christmas tree and make sure to position it so the best looking side is facing outwards.

If you have an artificial Christmas tree, make sure to fluff it so it looks its best.

Add the Christmas lights.  Make sure to add a minimum of 1 strand of 100 lights per foot height of your Christmas tree. Feel free to add more, even if you have a pre-lit Christmas tree.

For extra sparkle, you can add one or two strands of slow twinkling Christmas lights #ad, however avoid blinking or flashing lights that can be too harsh.

Feel free to add garland, ribbon, or other non-ornaments, however they are optional.

You will need ornaments depicting the 12 days of Christmas song.

If you have a smaller tree, you should use smaller ornaments.

If you have a taller tree, you should use taller ornaments.

You will need:

1 partridge in a pear tree ornament
2 turtle dove ornaments
3 French hen ornaments
4 calling bird ornaments
5 golden ring ornaments
6 geese a-laying ornaments
7 swans a-swimming ornaments
8 maids a-milking ornaments
9 ladies dancing ornaments
10 lords a-leaping ornaments
11 pipers piping ornaments
12 drummers drumming ornaments

Many people like to add the ornaments in order from least to greatest starting at the top of the tree.  If you want to add ornaments this way, add the partridge in a pear tree ornament to the very top of your tree, add the turtle doves slightly down from the partridge, and keep going until you reach the bottom of the tree with the drummers.

Of course you can add your ornaments in a random fashion if you prefer.

You might opt to purchase your ornaments or you could make them out of wood or clay to have a handmade look that would be a great Christmas craft for the family to spend time together making memories.

Fill In
Fill in the empty spots of your tree with basic sphere ornaments in a color of your choice found in the 12 Days of Christmas ornaments, some floral picks, or greenery.

Finish by adding a tree skirt topped with Christmas gifts wrapped in a color scheme to match your Christmas tree.  Make sure to wrap your Christmas gifts in a style that is complementary to your Christmas tree since the gifts are part of your Christmas tree decor.

You might choose to not have a tree topper, use a traditional star tree topper, use a large bow tree topper, use a floral pick tree topper, or use your partridge in a pear tree as the tree topper.
