How to Clean Spilled Nail Polish off the Floor

Spilled nail polish is never a good thing, but cleaning it up quickly and easily can minimize your stress and anxiety.

Here are a few ways to clean spilled nail polish off your floor.

If you spilled nail polish on a hard surface floor (tile, laminate, vinyl, etc), sprinkle a good amount of sugar over the top.

The sugar will absorb the nail polish.

After the nail polish has been absorbed, simply vacuum or sweep up the sugar and throw it away.

You can also use this method on carpet, but be prepared to follow this method with one of the methods below.

Hair Spray or Rubbing Alcohol
You can also use hair spray or rubbing alcohol to remove nail polish spills.

Saturate the nail polish in hair spray or rubbing alcohol then let it sit for about 20 seconds.

After that, wipe up the nail polish.

You may have to repeat this process several times.

You may also need to scrub the area with an old towel or toothbrush, but make sure you don't spread the nail polish to other parts of the floor.

Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover
You can use nail polish remover to get nail polish off flooring, but it is very likely that it may discolor your floor (especially dark carpet).

Test a small portion in an inconspicuous area before attempting this cleaning method on your entire floor.

Trim Carpet
If you spilled a tiny drop of nail polish on your carpet, consider leaving it to dry and simply giving your carpet a tiny trim with scissors.

Attempting to clean the tiny drop may smudge it and make the stain worse.

Tips
Take your time and go slow to make sure you do not harm your floor.  You may need to use a tiny utensil like a cotton swab instead of a large sponge to ensure a good result.

Clean your nail polish spill immediately.  Dried nail polish is harder to remove than wet nail polish.

Do not wipe the nail polish since it may spread and make the stain worse.  Absorb as much nail polish without wiping.

Always test any cleaning method in an inconspicuous area to ensure it will not discolor your flooring.
