Take everything out of your room except large furniture and rugs.

Remove all artwork, accessories, books, lamps, and small pieces of furniture.

Clean your room and everything you removed from the room very well.

If you use your existing cleaning supplies, you can do this for free.

Large Items
Consider changing the placement of the large furniture pieces in your room.

Can they be relocated to a different part of the room in order to make the room more functional or aesthetically pleasing?

Do you own another large piece of furniture that would look better in this room or should a large piece of furniture in this room be relocated to another room?

Don't be afraid to experiment with your furniture's arrangement or try something non traditional, such as turning your sofa on a diagonal when you redecorate.

Make sure you don't stuff too many pieces of large furniture in a small room.

Using friends or family to help you, this should be free.

Medium Items
After your large furniture is in place, add in your medium sized pieces.

Medium sized pieces include large artwork, small pieces of furniture, and large lamps.

Consider putting the pieces in a new location that would be more functional instead of putting them back where they were originally.

Is there something that would work better in another room or something in another room that would look better in this room?

Your room is not a storage unit, so you do not have to put everything you own in this room just because there happens to be an empty space.

Don't redecorate the room with unnecessary stuff.

This redecorating step should also be free.

Smaller Items
After your medium sized pieces are in place, redecorate your room using your accessories and smaller decorative pieces.

Look at magazines, catalogs, and online for rooms that you like and notice the quantity of accessories used and how the accessories are arranged.

Remember that not every surface needs to be covered.

Once again, consider relocating items from this room to another room and from another room to this room.

Most importantly - do not decorate with items that do not serve a purpose or that you do not love (remember that sometimes less is more when it comes to accessories).

If you have a collection, keep the collection grouped together, not spread throughout your home.

Consider rotating out some of your accessories so they are not displayed all at once.

If you already have some spray paint, consider painting some accessories that you are no longer in love with a fun color.

This step is also free of cost.

New Items
You can swap unused furniture and decorative items with your family and friends in order to redecorate your home for free.

Consider selling items that you are not using to get money to purchase new decorative items for your room.

This step is free and might actually make you money if you sell more than you buy.

If shopping online using money you earned selling items, use a cash back website (such as Ebates) to get a percentage of your purchase price back so you have more money for decorating.
