When decorating for Christmas, you should decorate using items that you love.
If you love butterflies, then why not decorate your Christmas tree with butterflies?
Butterflies are beautiful, elegant, and graceful.
Follow the steps below for instructions on how to decorate a butterfly themed Christmas tree that looks sophisticated, not juvenile.
Color Scheme
Decide on the overall color scheme for your Christmas tree.
It could be rainbow colored, gold with red & blue, all silver, red with silver & green, pink & white - the choice is up to you.
The colors selected should coordinate with the color scheme of the room it is going into.
Look into non traditional ornament colors available this year, such as olive green, plum, peacock blue, and navy.
Avoid using all primary colors because it might look juvenile.
These non traditional Christmas colors will give your Christmas tree a more updated look that feels more sophisticated.
Ornaments and Other Decorations
Select Christmas ornaments and garlands that will complement your color scheme.
Multi-pack Christmas ornaments are a good choice because they are usually less expensive and will stretch your decorating budget.
Make sure to purchase different styles of multi-pack Christmas ornaments so not all the ornaments look exactly alike. Five to ten larger sized ornaments per foot height of tree works well.
If your color scheme is more natural and monochromatic, decorate using natural elements such as twigs, grapevine, and pine cones.
Butterflies
Purchase large butterfly ornaments #ad for your Christmas tree.
Since butterflies are the theme, these ornaments should be the focal point and follow the color scheme.
Purchase butterfly ornaments that are larger than the size of your fist so that they attract attention.
Use at least 10 large butterfly ornaments per foot height of your Christmas tree.
Don't just look for butterfly ornaments in the Christmas section - the ornaments can be beautiful bookmarks, wall decorations, or wherever else you can find decorative butterflies.
Lights
Now that you have collected all of the items needed to decorate your Christmas tree, now is the time to start decorating.
Start by adding Christmas lights and check that they are all working properly.
Consider using twice as many lights as you normally do in order for the tree to truly sparkle.
Garlands and other Non-Ornaments
Next, decorate your Christmas tree with garlands, florals, ribbons, and any non ornament that you have purchased.
This step is optional.
Place these items evenly around your Christmas tree to enhance the tree prior to adding your Christmas ornaments.
Non-Butterfly Ornaments
Now is the time to decorate your Christmas tree using the non-butterfly Christmas ornaments.
Add your ornaments, then periodically step back and check to make sure the ornaments are applied evenly.
Larger ornaments should be placed towards the bottom of your tree and your smaller ornaments towards the top of your tree.
Avoid decorating with ornaments on the very edges of your tree because that is where the butterflies are going to be placed.
Make sure that the colors are mixed evenly.
Butterfly Ornaments
After all of the non-butterfly ornaments are on your Christmas tree, decorate your Christmas tree using all of your butterfly ornaments.
Put the butterfly ornaments on the tips of your Christmas tree, as if they just landed there.
Your Christmas tree tips are the most visible and will make the butterflies the focal point of your Christmas tree.
You could even create a butterfly swirl effect using hundreds of butterfles going around your tree in a barber pole pattern at least 9" wide at the base of the tree and tapering to a smaller width as you go up.
Top and Bottom
Don't forget to decorate the top of your Christmas tree as well as below your Christmas tree.
You could leave the top of your tree empty if it looks nice, or you could decorate it with a star, butterfly, or other decor.
For the bottom of your Christmas tree, use a color coordinating tree skirt and wrap your Christmas presents in color coordinating gift wrap and ribbons.
