Gather Your Decorations.....

Decide on the overall color scheme for your Christmas tree.

It could be rainbow colored, gold with red & blue, all silver, red with silver & green, pink & white - the choice is up to you.

The colors selected should coordinate with the color scheme of the room it is going into.

Look into non traditional ornament colors available at your local stores as well as online, such as olive green, plum, peacock blue, and navy.

Avoid using all primary colors because it might look juvenile.

These non traditional Christmas colors will give your Christmas tree a more updated look that feels more sophisticated.

Purchase Christmas ornaments and garlands that will complement your color scheme.

Multi-pack Christmas ornaments are a good choice because they are usually less expensive and will stretch your decorating budget.

Avoid ornaments smaller than a baseball on a 6 foot or taller Christmas tree because they can make your tree look cluttered.

Make sure to purchase different styles of multi-pack Christmas ornaments so not all the ornaments look exactly alike. Five to ten larger sized ornaments per foot height of tree works well.

If your color scheme is more natural and monochromatic, you can decorate using natural elements such as twigs, grapevine, and pine cones.

Purchase large butterfly ornaments #ad for your Christmas tree.

Since butterflies are the theme, these ornaments should be the focal point and follow the color scheme.

Purchase butterfly ornaments that are larger than the size of your fist so that they attract attention.

Use at least 10 large butterfly ornaments per foot height of your Christmas tree, however you can use fewer if you use larger butterfly ornaments.

Don't just look for butterfly ornaments in the Christmas section - the ornaments can be beautiful bookmarks, wall decorations, or wherever else you can find decorative butterflies.

Start decorating......

Lights
Now that you have collected all of the items needed to decorate your Christmas tree, now is the time to start decorating.

Start by adding Christmas lights and check that they are all working properly.

Consider using twice as many lights as you normally do in order for the tree to truly sparkle.

A bare minimum number of lights that designers use is 1 strand of 100 mini lights per tree, so a 7 foot tree would get 7 strands of lights.

Most designers prefer to use warm white lights on a tree, however you can use whatever you feel is most appropriate for your color scheme.

Feel free to add a few strands of gentle slow twinkle lights #ad for a bit of sparkle, but avoid flashing lights that can be too harsh.

Garlands
Next, decorate your Christmas tree with garlands, however this step is optional.

Your garland can be an evergreen that helps fill in your tree and make it look more fluffy.

Ribbons also make a nice garland.

For a rustic touch, you can add a grapevine garland for texture.

Butterfly Ornaments
Now is time to add the stars of the show - the butterflies!

Add your butterfly ornaments on the tips of your Christmas tree, as if they just landed there.

Your Christmas tree tips are the most visible and will make the butterflies the focal point of your Christmas tree.

You could even create a butterfly swirl effect using hundreds of butterfles going around your tree in a barber pole pattern at least 9" wide at the base of the tree and tapering to a smaller width as you go up.

Make sure to step back from your tree on occasion to see how the decorations look from a distance.

Fill in any empty space on your Christmas tree using the non-butterfly Christmas ornaments.

The non-butterfly ornaments help to add extra color and texture to your tree.

Some people like to put larger ornaments towards the bottom of their tree and smaller ornaments towards the top of their tree, however feel free to put your ornaments where you feel that they look best.

Place the ornaments farther inside the tree than the butterflies to add dimension.

Make sure that the colors are mixed evenly.

Top and Bottom
Don't forget to decorate the top of your Christmas tree as well as below your Christmas tree.

You could leave the top of your tree empty if it looks nice, or you could decorate it with a star, butterfly, or other decor.

For the bottom of your Christmas tree, use a color coordinating tree skirt, however some people like to use a Christmas tree collar #ad with or without a tree skirt.

Wrap your Christmas presents in color coordinating gift wrap and ribbons.

Consider buying at least 3 different wrapping papers and 3 different ribbons that complement your color scheme and wrap your gifts in different combinations of the paper and ribbons.
