When purchasing a rug for your bedroom, you should ensure that you get the correct size.
The correct rug size often depends on how you want the room to look and your budget, since smaller rugs are less expensive but larger rugs are more luxurious.
There are typically three different rug size options per bed size that work well. Note: you will need to measure your exact furniture and nightstand size to be exact - this is just a general guid of standard sized furniture.
See the information below for how to select the best rug size for your bedroom.
Twin Sized Bed
If you have one twin bed that is 39" wide by 75" long and two 24" wide nightstands, a 5' x 8' rug allows some of the rug to show on either side of the bed.
A 6' x 9' rug allows a little more room to show on either side of the bed, plus a little more at the foot of the bed.
An 8' x 10' rug will go underneath the entire bed and both nightstands.
Queen Sized Bed
If you have one queen sized bed that is 60" wide by 80" long with two 24" wide nightstands, a 5' x 8' rug allows some of the rug to show on either side of the bed (however this is not the best option).
A 6' x 9' rug allows a little more room to show on either side of the bed.
An 8' x 10' rug should just fit underneath the entire bed and both nightstands.
If you have one king sized bed that is 76" wide by 80" long and two 24" nightstands, a 6' x 9' rug will allow a small amount of rug to show on either side of the bed (however this is not the best option).
An 8' x 10' rug will allow a little more rug to show on either side of the bed, plus some at the foot of the bed.
A 9' x 12' rug should fit underneath the entire bed plus both nightstands.
Bench at Foot of Bed
If you want to have a bench at the end of your bed, your bench should fit entirely on top of the rug, not half on and half off.
Two Beds
If you have two beds side by side with a shared nightstand between them, consider using a small rug between them in front of the nightstand or one large rug that goes underneath both beds.
