Just like your clothing wardrobe, your home's decor should be updated every few years.
If you purchased high quality home furnishings, you may want to try and use as many of the items that you already have as possible when redecorating.
Here are a few ways to redecorate your home without having to purchase everything new.
The first step when redecorating using items you already have is to remove as many items as possible from your room so you can start with a clean slate.
Evaluate each of the items that you have to determine whether you still like them and want to keep them or if they are dated and need to go.
Now is a good time to spring clean those hard to reach places and each item individually.
Relocate
A designer trick in decorating is having a mixture of different furniture instead of matching furniture sets to create a one of a kind look.
If you have a matching set, consider moving the pieces into different rooms to give your home a more eclectic and custom look.
You can move your breakfast room table bench to the foot of your bed, your bedroom dresser can become an entry table, your breakfast room table can be relocated to your covered patio, or your matching side chair from your living room can go in the seating area of your bedroom.
Also consider moving the location of items within a room - such as moving your sofa or bed to a different wall.
Don't forget about items that are part of your home's architecture, such as light fixtures and cabinet knobs that can be moved around to create a new look.
Reimagine
Rethink the labels you put on your furniture and accessories and consider using them differently.
Does your dining room sideboard have to be a sideboard, or can it be a console table?
Does your ottoman have to be for your feet or can it become a coffee table with the addition of a decorative tray?
Does that mirror have to hang on the wall or can it become a serving tray or tabletop accent?
Paint
Paint is the cheapest way to make the most dramatic change in your home.
Painting the walls is what most people do with paint, but you can also paint your cabinets, paint your furniture, or create your own artwork.
Don't forget about spray paints that can turn an everyday object into a decorative object that looks very expensive.
Consider spray painting basic accessories either a unique color to complement your unique color scheme or a metallic color for a bit of glam.
Sell and Buy Used
You can sell the items you already own and use that money to buy new-to-you items for potentially the same cost.
Consider selling your items in eBay, Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace.
Once you receive the money from the sale of your items, use that money to buy used items that are more suited to your style.
