Accent Wall Ideas

If you have a room that needs a focal point, you may want to create an accent wall to draw attention to a certain part of your room.

You could have an accent wall for your fireplace wall, the wall behind your bed, inside an art niche, or the first wall you see when you enter the front door of your home.

Here are a few ideas for creating accent walls in your home.

Paint
The easiest way to create an accent wall (also called a feature wall) in your home is to paint that wall differently than the adjoining walls.

If your adjoining walls are a certain color, you can paint your accent wall the same color only 2 shades darker.

Other options include painting the wall a completely different color, painting a pattern on the wall, stenciling the wall, painting it a metallic color, or faux painting the wall.

Wood
You can add wood to your wall to make it an accent wall.

Consider using reclaimed wood for this project for a rustic look.

You can use stained, painted, weathered, or natural wood on your walls.

For a more contemporary or modern aesthetic, use new wood flooring.

Consider mixing wood with metal accents for even more drama.

Stone
Stone is a very popular choice for accent walls since it gives a feeling of history to a home.

You can select stones that look like boulders or more contemporary stacked stone.

There is even stone veneer that is easier to install and costs less.

Stone tiles are also a great option for making your wall a feature in your home.  For more drama, use a stone slab.

Brick
Similar to stone, brick gives a home a more stately appearance.

You can make an accent wall out of new bricks, reclaimed bricks, or brick veneer.

Wallpaper
Wallpaper is a scary word to most anyone who has ever had to remove wallpaper in a home.

Even though removing wallpaper is scary, wallpaper is very trendy right now and can very easily add drama to a room.

There is even removable wallpaper that renters can use and later remove.

Metal
You can use sheet metal or multiple sheets of metal to cover a wall and make it an accent wall.

You can even use tin ceiling tiles on a wall to make it an accent wall.

Consider using small pieces of metal in an interesting pattern to create an artistic looking accent wall.

Metal tiles are also an option for an accent wall.

Tile
Using the tile of your choice on a wall can add drama to a room.

You can use glass tile, stone tile, vintage tile, or whatever tile is appropriate for your home.
