As consumers become more knowledgeable about what chemicals go into mass produced store bought cleaners, they are insisting on green (also known as environmentally friendly) cleaning products.
Here are a few ways to get started using green cleaning products - many of which you may already have in your home.

First, determine what is NOT green.
If you cannot pronounce it, it is NOT green.
Chlorine, bleach, and ammonia are NOT green and can be deadly if mixed.
If it has a scent or dye, it is NOT green.
If it has packaging that is not able to be recycled, then it is NOT green.
Basic Green Cleaners
So, what is a green cleaning product?
Think about what your grandmother used to clean her home because it was probably green.
Many green cleaning products are readily available and you may actually have some of them in your home already.
Baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, borax, cream of tartar, lemon juice, and white vinegar are common green cleaning products.
Read Labels
Make sure to read the labels on cleaning products you purchase in a store.
Just because there is a tree on the front of the packaging, it is marketed for babies, the packaging is able to be recycled, the packaging is made from recycled products, or the bottle is clear does not mean that it is green, earth friendly, or organic.

Most larger grocery stores and big box stores are starting to carry at least one brand of green cleaning products.
