How to Decorate Your Front Porch for Halloween

Since you will most likely have many people visit your front porch for Halloween, consider spending a little extra time and effort decorating your front porch to be inviting for trick or treaters and their chaperones.

Your Halloween porch decor can be more geared towards fun for kids or more spooky for teens and adults.

Here are a few ideas for decorating your front porch for Halloween.

When people think of Halloween, they almost always think of pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns.

You can carve your pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns and fill them with a candle to add light to your front porch.  For safety, consider using a flameless candle #ad inside your jack-o'lantern.

Not carving your pumpkin is also a great option because it is a great fall decoration for your front porch, even after Halloween is over.

For a bit of a designer touch, consider also adding some unique gourds.

Decorate your front porch with other objects in fall colors.

Traditional fall colors include orange, yellow, brown, rust, and dark red.

More unique and modern fall colors include deep purple, pink, blue, teal, and lime green.

For Halloween, add the color black to your fall color scheme.  If you prefer a more happy Halloween experience, add white instead of black.

You can decorate with flowers (mums are a favorite fall flower), pillows on your outdoor seating, a wreath, a door mat, garland made of leaves, an abundance of lanterns or candles (battery powered candles are a safer option) to create a warm glow, a black urn of plants, or any other decorative item.

Some favorite Halloween decorations for a front porch include oversized fake spider webs with oversized fake spiders #ad, skulls with red glowing eyes, funny tombstones, ghosts hanging from the ceiling, pumpkins that look like ghosts, zombies, creepy clowns, werewolfs, mummies, aliens, caution tape, sports balls that look like eyeballs in the plants, bat silhouettes on the walls or rubber bats hanging from the ceiling, orange string lights, broomsticks, skeletons, witches hats hanging from the ceiling, or most anything spooky that you can think of.

You can even add creepy music and a smoke machine for Halloween night.

For fun and festive Halloween decor, consider using balloon garlands and/or candy decor with fun and festive Halloween colors.

Consider how your Halloween decorations will look at night.

You might need to add extra special Halloween lighting #ad to ensure all of your decorations can be seen and that your trick-or-treaters can safely reach the front door.

Consider dimming some lights or close the curtains in your home to give a creepier effect.

You can add more jack-o'-lanterns to add some light or you can add glow sticks to some of your decorations to make sure they are not invisible in the dark.

Spotlights on certain decor pieces work well to illuminate them.

Lights lining the driveway and/or sidewalk are very popular.  You can choose battery powered lights or solar lights.  Be very cautious with using real candles with a flame that could catch something on fire.

If your front walkway is long enough, consider creating a Halloween storyline for people to emerse themselves into while visiting your home.

A spooky storyline could be about all of the inhabitants of a haunted house.

A fun storyline could be different aspects of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory or Candy Land.

You could even create a longer path for people to visit the back door of your home instead of the front door so you have more of an opportunity to set the stage for your Halloween experience.

Another idea is to turn your garage into a Halloween experience with many Halloween artifacts to see.
