Storage Systems
Create storage systems to keep clutter out of your minimalist room. Items such as cell phones, mail, newspapers, purses, and shoes should be put away behind a door so they are out of sight.

Empty Space
Allow plenty of empty space when decorating your minimal home.

Every wall does not need artwork and every horizontal surface does not need accessories.

Highest Quality
Since you are using fewer items in your minimalistic home, every piece should be of the highest quality.

Spend extra money on a timeless sofa since you will not need to spend money on throw pillows.

Invest in a large scale high quality piece of art since you will likely not be spending money on many accessories.

Avoid Patterns
Use very few, if any, patterns in your minimalist home decorating.

Everything should be streamlined and simple.

Texture
Add textural items to your minimalist room in order to give it interest.

Mix rough wood with slick glass, textural woven fabric with shiny silk, and glossy painted furniture with aged metal.

Focal Point
Your minimally decorated room should have a focal point.

The focal point should catch your attention when entering the room.

The focal point of a living room might be a fireplace, the focal point of a kitchen might be a large range with a range hood above, the focal point of a bedroom might be the bed, and the focal point of a dining room might be a beautiful chandelier or a large piece of art.

A Natural Element
Add a natural element to your minimalistic room to give it life.

You can use natural stone, wood flooring, a potted plant, and/or fresh flowers in the room.

The natural element will make the room feel less sterile.
