I have met many people over the years that are afraid of decorating their homes.

Your decision to sell your home should dictate some of your decorating choices.
If there is a high probability of you selling your home in the next 2 years or less, then you should look into doing some "wow" upgrades to your home to make your home more desirable.
Know what is appropriate in your neighborhood and get the work done now so you are not rushed in the near future.
If you have no intention of selling your home, but are worried about the 1% chance that you may need to sell it, then take a deep breath and relax.
As long as you don't do anything too crazy, you will be fine.

Where to Start
When decorating your home, it is good to have a decorating plan.
Start with one room so you don't get overwhelmed (typically the room you spend the most time in, such as your living room or bedroom).
Select something large for your room that you love, maybe a rug or a piece of art, and pull together everything else to coordinate with that item.
You can purchase pillows and accessories to compliment the colors in the item you love.
You don't have to save up for everything before you start decorating - you can do it piece by piece.

Are you afraid that you might select something for your home that you don't like?
With the exception of custom items, most things are returnable.
Consider purchasing a few things, live with them for a week, then determine whether you really like them or not.
Avoid using too many trendy items - most everything that is currently in style will eventually be out of style.

Don't rely too much on the opinions of people who do not live in your home.
Everyone likes different things and you can't please everyone.

Do not be afraid of paint.
Repainting a room or a piece of furniture can usually be done in a day with minimal costs, so don't be afraid.
Be daring.
Be bold.
Nobody likes boring beige, so go for it.
