Approximately half of the costs of a full kitchen remodel comes from labor.

If you already have the tools and some free time, why not research how to remodel your kitchen and do it yourself.

You can remodel your kitchen in phases over the weekends when you have some free time in order to save a lot of cash.

You can even do a portion of the work, but pay professionals to do the parts that you don't feel comfortable tackling yourself.

Cabinets
If you remove your kitchen cabinets when doing a kitchen remodel, you will also have to deal with plumbing and electrical issues (maybe also gas).

You will most likely have to get new countertops, backsplash, a new sink, and new faucet.

It may also affect your existing flooring.

Removing and replacing kitchen cabinets is often like opening a can of worms, so try to work with what you have.

You can paint your existing cabinets, repair your cabinets, add on to your cabinets to bring them to the ceiling, get new doors for your cabinets, or possibly raise your upper cabinets to the ceiling and add a shelf underneath (if they were built in a factory, not on site).

The less demolition the more inexpensive.

Countertops
When selecting a countertop for your newly remodeled kitchen, select something that will not go out of style.

A popular budget friendly countertop is butcher block, but make sure it is sealed properly.

Granite and other natural materials tend to be in fashion longer than man made materials, such as laminate or solid surfacing.

People will ooh and ahh over granite countertops, so spend a little extra money here.

Don't cheap out on the least expensive countertop edge detail.

Appliances
Professional grade appliances can cost many times more than similar looking but more basic appliances.

Unless you are a professional cook, get more basic appliances for your kitchen.

You can even look at scratch and dent appliances or last year's model appliances that cost many hundred dollars cheaper.
