Designer Chandeliers on a Budget - Under $100, Under $150, and Under $200

When decorating your home, you should not ignore your light fixtures.

Light fixtures can make or break a room's design - especially a very visible chandelier that hangs down from the ceiling.

Whether your home is very dated with old ugly chandeliers, or it is a brand new home with super cheap generic chandeliers selected by the builder, you should consider upgrading your lighting to compliment your decor style.

A new reasonably priced stylish chandelier replacing an ugly, undersized, or basic chandelier in your home can increase the value of your home by 5 to 10 times the cost of the chandelier.

Luckily, there are many chandeliers that are very budget friendly.

Light Fixtures to Replace
Before selecting a new chandelier, you should take stock of all of the light fixtures in your home.

Here is a list of the light fixtures that I see most often that you should remove from your house - shiny brass cheap looking chandelier, cheap silver down light chandelier, upside down salad bowl, glass spaceship looking monstrosity that is often found in two story entryways, less horrible shiny brass entry fixture, "boob" light, ornate square glass fixture, simple globe fixture, acorn fixture, and basic pendant light that is way too small.

Chandeliers Size
When selecting a chandelier for your home, you should make sure to get the correct size for your room.

A general rule to calculate the correct width of a new chandelier for your room is to take the room width in feet plus the room length in feet, add them together, then that is the approximate diameter of the chandelier in inches.  Confused?  OK, a 12 foot by 14 foot room would be 12 + 14 = 26 inch diameter chandelier.  Keep in mind that this is an estimate, so feel free to size up or down a bit.

If the chandelier is going over a dining table, the width of the chandelier is typically 1/2 to 2/3 width of the table.  If your dining table is 48 inches by 60 inches, then the diameter of the chandelier would be between 24 inches and 32 inches.

When selecting the height of a chandelier, take the ceiling height in feet, multiply it by 3, and that is an estimate of the height of a chandelier in inches.  An 8 foot tall ceiling could have a chandelier around 24 inches tall, while a 10 foot tall ceiling could have a 30 inch tall chandelier.  If you have a 2 story room that is 18 foot tall, you might want a chandelier that is around 4-1/2 feet tall.  Once again, this is just an estimate.

Most people select a chandelier that is too small, which cheapens the look of the room.  When in doubt, go bigger, but not too tall that it gets in the way.

Here is an article about the correct height to hang your chandelier - The Correct Height to Hang Light Fixtures.

Note - When installing a chandelier, ensure that you have appropriate blocking in the ceiling to be able to support the weight.
